The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) said on Tuesday that till 20 January 2020 a total of 65.65 lakh GSTR-3B returns were filed for the month of December 2019.
“Till 20 January 2020, a total of 65,64,871 GSTR-3B were filed for the tax month of December, out of which 13.30 lakh GSTR-3B returns were filed on the last day itself, i.e. on 20 January 2020,” CBIC said in a statement.

The department added that till January 14, a total of 24.66 lakh GSTR-3B returns had been filed. It ALSO stated that “a further 2.66 lakh on 15 January, 4.65 lakh on 16 January and 5.93 lakh GSTR-3B returns on 17 January were filed. In the last three days 8.32 lakh, 6.09 lakh and 13.30 lakh GSTR-3B returns were filed on January 18, 19 and 20 respectively.” CBIC also mentioned in its statement that more than 2 lakh GSTR-3B returns (for the December tax month) were filed on January 21 (till 12 pm). Therefore, the overall GSTR-3B returns filed in the January month amounted to 67.70 lakh.

The department stated that OTPs had been received by the taxpayers with some time lag due to the delays in the email service provider or local Internet problems. “To ensure that the taxpayer faces no inconvenience on this account, the OTPs are sent simultaneously by email as well as by registered mobile number so that, in the event of a delay in receiving OTP by email, OTP received by mobile phone or vice versa may be used. Taxpayers may use OTP received on any medium for filing their returns,” the CBIC said in its statement.
Although, there has been some news in air that the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs has increased the deadline for filing GSTR 3B of December 2020 for 2 days up to January 22, 2020. The CBIC had clearly stated that the reports are fake CBIC had not announced any such extension.
