RAIPUR: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh urged the Centre on Thursday to provide the necessary stock of COVID-19 vaccines a week ahead of schedule, as well as a reduction in the GST rate on medicines and devices used in the treatment of the infection, according to officials.
During the PM meeting, the chief minister requested that the Centre have a week’s worth of needed vaccines in advance, as this would allow for more efficient vaccination in remote areas.
According to a public relations department official, Baghel made these demands during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video conference meeting with chief ministers to address the COVID-19 situation and the vaccination drive’s development.
During the meeting, the chief minister demanded that the Centre provide a week’s worth of needed vaccines in advance, claiming that this would allow for smooth vaccination in remote districts.

The CM urged the Centre to lower the GST rate on medicines and devices used in the treatment of COVID-19, claiming that this would help coronavirus patients.
In light of the growing COVID-19 cases in the state, Baghel also requested the Center’s help in maintaining a steady supply of Remdesivir injection and oxygen cylinders, as well as the establishment of four virology labs and 1,000 ICU beds, according to the official.
In a briefing on vaccination coverage, the Chief Minister said that the first dose of vaccine was given to 87% of healthcare staff, 84% of frontline workers, and 43% of people over 45 years of age in Chhattisgarh.

According to him, 33.61 lakh vaccine doses have been administered to residents of the state as of April 7. He said that in Chhattisgarh, 2,04,420 tests are performed per 10 lakh people, while at the national level, 1,89,664 tests are performed per 10 lakh people.
The state’s RT-PCR test percentage was 26% in October 2020, but it had risen to about 40% in April 2021, according to the CM.
