Bank holidays in October 2021: Banks will be close for 21 days

Bank Holidays: All private and public sector banks will remain closed for 21 days in this October 2021 month, including second and fourth Saturdays, and Sundays, as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar. October 2021 bank holidays are die to Gandhi Jayanti, Durga Puja, Navami Puja, Dussehra, and other major regional festivals.

Banks in India are closed on the 2nd Saturday, the 4th Saturday, and all Sundays of the month. This month, all private and public sector banks will remain closed for a total of 21 days. Except for a few days, most holidays this month are only applicable for a handful of cities. As per RBI’s Bank Holiday 2021 list, out of the 21 holidays in October, only 14 are festival holidays, and the rest seven are weekend leaves.

In other words, all banks remain shut on public holidays while certain holidays vary from state to state. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has placed the holidays under three brackets- Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act; Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) Holiday; and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

While the bank branches will remain closed on these days, mobile and internet banking will remain functional as usual. Customers can make transactions through online modes.

However, not all states observe bank holidays, and it largely depends on the state or region. Therefore, national holidays are applicable to all the states in India but regional holidays are applicable only to specific states. It is recommended that bank account holders schedule their transactions accordingly.
