Income tax refunds is being delayed due to website issues

The Income Tax Department said it has issued refunds totaling Rs 37,050 crore to nearly 17.92 lakh taxpayers this fiscal year, but technological issues with the newly built website are delaying the processing of returns that have been filed.

Personal income tax refunds totaled Rs 10,408 crore, while corporate refunds totaled Rs 26,642 crore.

“CBDT issues refunds of over Rs 37,050 crore to more than 17.92 lakh taxpayers between 1st April 2021 to 5th July 2021. Income tax refunds of Rs 10,408 crore have been issued in 16,89,063 cases & corporate tax refunds of Rs 26,642 crore have been issued in 1,03,088 cases,” the I-T department tweeted.

Meanwhile, officials believe that technological issues with the newly built website have hampered the IT assessment process because they are unable to access data from the back end smoothly. Infosys, the website’s vendor, is now working to resolve the issues. Officials believe that if the issue is not resolved in a timely manner, they will be forced to enable manual submission of forms.
