West Bengal to reduce intrastate e-way bill threshold to Rs 50,000

West Bengal E-way Bill Limit

West Bengal E-way Bill Limit: To bring West Bengal into line with the rest of the nation and avoid GST slippage, the state will lower the intrastate e-way bill threshold from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50,000 starting in December.

According to a recent West Bengal GST notification, moving goods worth more than Rs 50,000 within the state will need an e-way bill. Job work goods will also be covered by this provision.

There are two primary justifications for adjusting the West Bengal e-way bill threshold, the state GST commissioner Khalid Anwar revealed to PTI.

“The first is to achieve parity with the rest of the nation, where interstate goods movement already costs Rs 50,000. The threshold of one lakh rupees for intrastate movement was frequently misconstrued as encompassing interstate movement of goods, resulting in traders facing penalties”, he added.

The second reason is that there is tax slippage because dishonest traders are abusing the higher threshold. He stated that a lower threshold will aid in safeguarding tax revenues.

Additionally, he stated that the state had initially maintained the intrastate threshold at Rs. 1 lakh in order to assist small traders, give them a buffer, and prevent any initial problems with the e-way system. The threshold has been lowered in light of the system’s current streamlining.
