Fire breaks out at GST Bhavan in Mumbai, no casualties reports

A major fire broke out at Mazgaon GST Bhavan in Byculla area in Mumbai, Today. So far, there are no reports of any accidental injuries, officials said.

16 fire engines and 9 water tankers were called to the spot by the fire brigade. The fire intensity increased rapidly from Level 3 to Level 4 (major) within 45 minutes since it emerged. A Level 4 fire is considered a massive one, as per the standard operating procedure of the fire brigade.

As the fire broke out on the eighth floor, the two turn table ladders of the fire brigade were also present at the location.

Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, who also holds the Finance portfolio rushed to the GST Bhavan, quickly left for the incident spot from a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) meeting chaired by NCP chief Sharad Pawar at YB Chavan Center in South Mumbai.

Around 3,500 workers were working in the building in the Mazagon area, around 12.30 pm, when the fire broke out, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar said. Although some employees blamed short circuit for the cause of fire. But the officials said the exact cause is under investigation. The building was previously known as the Sales Tax Bhavan, but since the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax regime it got renamed as GST Bhavan.
